MIXing fall colours in oils

A Two-Part Fall Colour Workshop

Every fall the Beaver Valley puts on a show. Have you ever wondered why those colours feel so magical?

It isn’t because the trees are simply “red” or “orange.” It’s the hundreds of colours working together. Warm golds beside cool shadows. Dusty olives beside glowing crimsons. Soft blue skies against fields of faded grasses. Once you start noticing them, it’s hard to stop.

The truth is, most of us were never actually taught colour. We learned how to paint things, but not how artists really see colour or how to mix it with confidence.

That’s what this workshop is all about.

Over two classes, we’ll explore the colours that make autumn in the Beaver Valley so captivating. I’ll guide you through colour mixing one mixture at a time, explaining why colours work together and how to recreate them yourself. We’ll build our colours gradually, so by the end of the workshop you’ll have a much deeper understanding of how to mix oil paints, adjust, and see colour.

Each class includes guided colour mixing, a fold-out colour journal where you’ll build your own collection of swatches and recipes, and a small colour study on canvas so you can see your mixes come to life. This isn’t about creating a perfect painting. It’s about becoming more confident with colour and discovering just how much there is to see.

You’ll leave with a beautiful colour journal, a collection of reliable mixing recipes, and a completely different way of looking at the landscape around you.

Make-up classes are not available for this short session.

All class materials are provided. Tea will be served.

If chilly weather is upon us, please bring slippers and a not precious sweater. THE STUDIO IS LOCATED IN AN OLD BUILDING.
