A Two-Part Winter Colour Workshop

Have you ever stopped to really look at the colours of winter? At first glance, winter seems simple. White snow. Grey skies. Bare trees. But look a little closer.

Snow is filled with colour. Soft lavender shadows. Icy blues. Muted greens. Warm golden grasses peeking through the snow. The glow of a winter sunset reflecting across a frozen landscape.

Winter is not a season without colour. It is a season where colour becomes quieter, softer, and even more beautiful.

The truth is, most of us were never actually taught how to see colour. We learned how to paint objects, but not how artists look at the subtle colours hiding in the world around them or how to mix those colours with confidence.

That’s what this workshop is all about.

Over two classes, we’ll explore the unique colour palette of winter. I’ll guide you through colour mixing one mixture at a time, explaining how artists create those beautiful cool shadows, glowing winter lights, and delicate neutral tones that make snowy landscapes feel alive.

Together, we’ll build a winter colour journal filled with your own swatches and mixing recipes. You’ll experiment with creating soft greys, icy blues, purple shadows, and the surprising warm colours that bring a winter scene to life.

Each class includes guided colour mixing, a fold-out colour journal where you’ll build your own collection of swatches and recipes, and a small colour study on canvas so you can see your mixes come to life.

This isn’t about creating a perfect winter painting. It’s about slowing down, looking closely, and learning how to truly see colour.

You’ll leave with a beautiful colour journal, a collection of reliable mixing recipes, and a completely different way of looking at the winter landscape around you.

Winter has never been colourless. You just have to know where to look.

All class materials are provided. Tea will be served.

If chilly weather is upon us, please bring slippers and a not precious sweater. THE STUDIO IS LOCATED IN AN OLD BUILDING.
