SPARKLE AND LIGHT: AN OIL PAINTING WORKSHOP

There’s something magical about seeing the world lit up at night. Christmas lights have a way of transforming an ordinary street, a familiar tree, or a quiet winter evening into something completely different. They glow, sparkle and create little pockets of colour and warmth against the deep blue of the night.

In this special 3-hour oil painting workshop, we’re going to capture that magic from start to finish, creating a full painting together in the studio.

We’ll begin with a lesson in composition, underpainting and value, learning how to build a strong painting from the very beginning. We’ll explore how to use oil paint to create depth and atmosphere, followed by a colour-mixing lesson where we’ll create the rich indigos, violets and deep blues of a winter night.

Then comes the really fun part: learning how to paint light.

I’ll show you how to create glowing Christmas lights that actually feel luminous on the canvas, using colour, value and contrast to create that sense of sparkle and radiating light. We’ll look at how to make the lights glow, how to create depth within the darkness, and how a few carefully placed colours can completely transform a painting.

This is a rare opportunity to spend an entire afternoon painting with me from beginning to end, in a small studio setting, with plenty of guidance and support along the way.

And yes, you might just see oil painting in a whole new light!

If chilly weather is upon us, please bring slippers and a not precious sweater. THE STUDIO IS LOCATED IN AN OLD BUILDING.
